Lioness’ Necklace & Earrings

Give the royal touch with a fun necklace and pair of earrings for your lioness wall decor piece! I’ve included a no-sew option and a sewn option.  You can find the crown tutorial here.

No-Sew Option

What You Need:

  • – 14″ x 15″ Oly-Fun Craft Fabric in gold (or a non-fraying fabric such as felt)
  • – 14″ x 7″ No-Sew Iron-On Adhesive
  • – Scissors
  • – Metallic Acrylic Paint (Optional)
  • – Small Paint Brush (optional)
  • – Embellishments (optional) trims, gems, beads, etc
  • – Hot Glue/Super Glue
  • – Necklace and Pendant Templates (link at the bottom of this page)

Step 1: Trace the crown onto the paper side of some iron-on adhesive and iron it to the wrong side of one of the oversized necklace panels.

Step 2: Cut the necklace shape from the adhesive bonded fabric panel.

Step 3: Peel the paper from the adhesive bonded fabric. Then iron the adhesive bonded fabric to the wrong side of the opposite crown fabric panel. Trim away the excess fabric.

Step 4: Follow the same process of steps 1-3 for each necklace pendant and earring pendants.

Step 5: Cut the excess fabric. You may brush the edges with a matching metalic acrylic paint (as shown in the crown tutorial).

Step 6: Use a small amount of hot glue and adhere each pendant to the necklace.  Embellish as desired by using super glue to attach gems, etc

Step 7: Attach the earrings to the lioness by adding a few tack stitches through the top of the pendant and into the ear.  Slip the necklace around the base of the neck, flat with the backing and tack stitch the ends of the necklace to the outer edge of the lioness’ neck.  Alternatively you may glue them in place, however, consider the damage if you decide to remove them later.

Sewn Option

What You Need:

  • – 14″ x 15″ Gold Warp Lame Fabric  (or crepe back satin, glittered minky, etc)
  • – 14″ x 7″ Heavy Iron-On Interfacing
  • – Thread
  • – Scissors
  • – Sewing Machine
  • – Embellishments *optional (trim, gems, etc)
  • – Necklace and Pendant Templates (link at the bottom of this page)

Step 1: Trace and cut the necklace and pendant templates from iron-on heavy interfacing. Cut two oversized necklace panels and two oversized panels for each pendant you want to make from fabric.

Step 2: Iron it onto the wrong side of one of the fabric panels. (be mindful of the fabric’s compatibility with heat from an iron, place cotton fabric or parchment paper over the crown fabric if needed).

Step 3: Pin the fabric panels right side together and sew along the edge of the interfacing. Leave an opening on the side of each pendant for turning.  I found with the necklace that trying to turn it right side out was going to be a pain, so I left the whole inside edge unsewn. See step 5 for more details.

Step 4: Turn each pendant right side out and top stitch around the edge.

Step 5: Turn the necklace right side out.  Align the inside edge of the necklace and pin together (this won’t be seen once on your lioness). Topstitch all the way around the necklace.

Step 6: Attach the pendants to the necklace by either tack stitching or gluing in place.  Add embellishments as desired (I added a string of beads at the top edge of the necklace).
