An adorable, shapely and simple bunny to get you started on your plushie making adventure! You’ll adore it’s raindrop shaped body and drippy spindly arms and legs to accompany the raindrop theme.
This bunny is designed to for the novice beginner. It will walk you though choosing the best fabrics, plushie making best practices and more! The bunny is designed to teach the fundamental skills of making a plushie. This is done in a manner to keep it from being overwhelming. For example, you’ll learn to sew a gusset…but you only have one to sew!
While this is designed for the novice, it can also be a quick and easy project for any level sewist! It is always fun watching a plushie come to life whether it’s simple or detailed.
When finished, this bunny is approximately 21″ from toe to head, 8″ wide at widest point and 11″ from bum to head (sitting). These measurements are approximate and can vary slightly based on the fabrics you use.

Materials and Tools Needed
- 1/2 yard smooth minky (alternative fabrics: fleece, quality cotton, repurposed clothing, etc) *1 yard (58″ wide) will make 3 bunnies
- ~ 11″ x 11″ piece of minky for inner floppy ears (alternative fabrics: quality cotton, fleece, etc)
- ~10″ wide x 6″ piece of smooth minky for inner upright ears (alternative fabrics: quality cotton, fleece, etc.)
- ~ 4″ x 4″ piece of smooth minky for inner tail (alternative fabrics: 10mm Luxe Cuddle®, quality cotton, fleece, etc.)
- ~10″ x 6″ piece of ByAnnie Soft & Stable, batting or felt for the inside of the upright ears
- ~12 oz fiber filling
- 1 pair 15mm Safety Eyes (alt 14mm or 16mm will work, too)
- Notions: scissors, thread, sewing machine, etc.
Pattern Testers' Raindrop Ragdoll Bunny Gallery
I absolutely love when a pattern has reached the testing phase. It is such a joy to see what everyone makes, employing their creativity to bring it to life. The testers provide the polish to the pattern and tutorial. They give of their valuable time and talents and I appreciate them immensely! A huge thank you to each one of them!
Pattern testers used a variety of fabrics, including: cotton, fleece, minky, sherpa, velvet, faux fur, flannel, long pile minky (Luxe Cuddle®), etc.
Pattern testers ranged in skills from beginner (having never made a plushie before, too!) to advanced. At least three of the testers made their bunnies by sewing everything by hand.
This is such a quick and easy make, several testers made more than one during the testing timeframe.
Testers made their bunnies with standard plastic safety eyes, buttons and fabric applique eyes. Some testers opted out of applying the soft sculpting to pull in the eyes/head. Some testers used a plastic safety nose or an fabric applique nose. Many applied the “V” embroidered nose and some didn’t make their bunny with a nose at all.
Some testers reduced the size of their bunnies after making the original size. Some added embellishments such as ribbons, applique shapes, etc.

While the Raindrop Ragdoll Bunny is intentionally made without many options and in a simple way to keep it beginner friendly and not overwhelming…some testers employed some additional techniques. I have put them here to inspire you…go ahead…dive in!
Chris Mills made a Wolpertinger! ...and Jackalope!
Chris added wings, antlers and fangs to create the Wolpertinger. The Jackalope has added antlers and rabbit teeth. In addition, Chris soft sculpted the hands and feet to create toes/fingers. They lengthened the ears on both the Wolpertiner and Jackalope.
CJ Hyland's Bumble Bunny!
CJ pieced together black and yellow fabrics to create the body of the bunny in a bumble bee stripe pattern. CJ added wings and antennae, too!

Everyone should have a Jackalope…maybe even a Wolpertinger!
It is difficult to accurately describe the skill level needed for each project as the skill level itself can be quite subjective. Each traditional skill level has a wide spectrum of ability associated with it. I have tried to assign a general skill level to each pattern, however, please review specific techniques used in the pattern to determine if it is a good fit for you to try. Keep in mind I write my tutorials in bite-sized easy to follow steps, each accompanied with photos.
I aim to have each pattern attainable for a confident beginner and some have variations that may be more advanced, but they are optional. You’ll be provided with all the instructions, tips and material list to create a plush toy just like those pictured in the tutorial…I keep nothing secret. Each pattern and tutorial provides the blueprint for you to make it just like I have. An easy to make pattern doesn’t have to be simplistic looking…it can look amazing!
